6 Days to Go

April 30, 2011

Wilkerson Here:  How do we get outside of ourselves?  Heard a presentation asking, who is the King of our life.  In a democracy we vote and our voice is heard.  As a people we are encouraged to go for things and be the one who makes it happen.  Our nature is to buck the establishment and be different, ourselves, unique and one of a kind.  That is put so deeply into us we think, it is all about me.  It isn’t?  We are our own King, so says our human nature.  The only way we can change that is to replace our nature with God’s.  It is found in Christ.  Any good we do outside ourselves is from Him.  I give thanks for your gifts to Run Mark Run, going to the Haitian people.

Training:  Did 3 miles easy today to see how my foot would hold up.  So far, so good.  Will let you know after the 13.1 tomorrow.  Looks like we will be doing it in a thunderstorm.

7 DAYS TO GO

April 29, 2011

Wilkerson Here:  Over 200 killed and over 1000 injured from weather.  I have family in Alabama who are without electricity, phone service (wireless) and Internet.  Their friends homes are gone or damaged.  They are OK, others are not.  Lives shattered in a matter of minutes.  The loss of life is tragic and devastating to loved ones.  As the future unfolds, I am reminded we live in a great country where people can and will rebuild.  Lost life however cannot be replaced.  Lord, we offer a prayer for those who morn for the family members lost to them and returned to You.  Only You can give the comfort necessary and we know from Your suffering on earth that You understand with perfection our sorrow and needs.  You promise comfort and we ask for your liberal grace for those who need it now.   In Your Name we ask,  AMEN

As I contemplate our family in Alabama struggling without gas, electricity, water and the difficulty of keeping food, I am reminded that the people of Haiti struggle with this every day from the moment they are born till the day they die.  Progress to repair the storm ravaged portions of the United States will be slow but sure.   Rebuilding in Haiti will be so much slower and yet with help, it will happen too.  Your generosity through Run Mark Run will help bring clean water, food and needed medical attention leading to hope for many.  We just need 133 more people to offer a penny for everyone we pass to surpass want was contributed last year.  If each person will ask a few friends to add their support, we will get there.  Always, I am so appreciative of you following our journey and helping us provide life support for others unable to help themselves.  You are a part of the journey.

8 DAYS TO GO

April 28, 2011

Wilkerson Here:  Thanks, we hit $20,000.  Can we get to $30,000.  I heard a story today about a destitute women who lived next to an unbeliever who was very critical of her prayerful attitude.  One day he overheard her praying and asking that somehow God would provide food as she had none and was out of money.  The unbeliever quickly ran, purchased groceries and placed them at her door, rang the door bell and hid.  When the woman came out and saw the groceries, she immediately began praising the Lord.  The unbeliever jumped out and scoffed at her that God didn’t provide the groceries, he himself had purchase the food.  She replied _______(you furnish her comment).   All the world is used in God’s plans.  Who knows how God will use your pledge in His plan.  You can be sure He will use whatever you can offer.  After all, He fed 5,000 with just five loaves of bread and two fishes.  Matt 14:15-18

Training:  None.  Have to stay off the foot for 48 hours.  So I will find out how it is on Friday evening or may just wait till I run the “Pig” to find out.  The race is called the Flying Pig because P&G used to run the pigs through downtown to the rendering factory in the old days.   Learned in the past that you don’t lose the training by resting well before these races.

9 DAYS TO GO

April 27, 2011

Wilkerson Here:  What a day!  You are amazing!  We have grown the contribution to almost $19,000.  Romans 12:4-8 talks about our function in the body of believers and one of the functions is giving–and doing so generously.  We have seen that in the last 3 days.  However, it’s not over.  9 days to go and they are the most important.  If you have pledged, we need you to enlist others to pledge as well, if not then we need you to log your pledge and then tell others.  This campaign is all through social marketing and the connections we all have to one another.  You must send and appeal to others if we are to go beyond last year.  Certainly we can get to $40,000 in 9 days but it will take your resolve and effort.  Praise be to God for your interest and help.  In His name I ask that he bless all our efforts for Haiti.  AMEN

Training;  Good news, got a steroid shot today in the neuroma.  We will see in 48 hours if it helped.  If not, the doctor who is running the Mini as well will meet me just before the race and deaden the nerve so I can run pain free.  That is a relief to know.  Only a short run on Saturday before the “Flying Pig” 1/2 in Cincinnati this weekend.  Then on to the real race the next weekend.

10 DAYS TO GO

April 26, 2011

Wilkerson Here:  Heard on Moody Radio today, Ron Hutchcraft talking about “it’s not ours to break”.  He told a story of how kids came over to his house and played with his children’s toys.  They broke some of the toys.  His children’s reaction was, it wasn’t theirs to break, it belonged to me.  His point was that God redeemed us through Christ.  Those of us who believe know, we are not ours to break.  We belong to him.  We were purchased by Christ as he paid for us with his life.  Matt 20:28  Don’t break things that don’t belong to you!  Treating others, that belong to Him with care and concern will garner respect from the owner.  2 Cor 9:7

Training:  Ran 3 miles tonight.  Nice weather.  Starting to taper a little.  Hope to bike long before the Flying Pig 1/2 marathon this weekend.  Will do speed work at the least.  Probably will try to get neuroma injected tomorrow.
