Spiritual Prep:

Proverbs 9:9  “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning”.  Even if I think I know; from the the writer of Proverbs, I can be wiser and add to my learning.  I pray to be ever asking and ever  seeking the insights that will add beneficial meaning to my friends and co-workers.  In You Name.

Training Prep:

4 Miles today.  Foot didn’t hurt to bad.  Wasn’t planning on a run with people but had a partner and it was great.  Running with others is much better than just self.  Tried to take a flip video for the website.  Didn’t turn out so good.  Will try again.

Spiritual Prep:

Matt 18:17b   “I will build my Church”    He is building, are we helping with excitement and anticipation?  I once heard a story of some construction people  who were asked what they were doing.  One who was a supervisor said in a short manner, “Can’t you see we are building a building”.  A skilled carpenter grudgingly said “I am only building walls”.  Then the lowest level worker who’s job it was to support the most skilled workers was asked and he replied with excitement, passion and energy, “we are building a place where people will be able to come and work to assist others in achieving their dreams”.   He had a clear focus with the end in mind.  Skilled in knowledge and ability is only as valuable as the attitude that goes with them.  So what are you doing in the construction of The Church, with the end in mind?

Training Prep:

Weights today.  Really a rest day but took one yesterday so must do today.  Looking forward to tomorrow.  We will be shooting a short video of two Marks running for the new web site.  Looking for a new web site release next week!

Guess you noticed no post yesterday.  That is because I became a Grand-dud yesterday afternoon.  It has been a wild couple of days.  New life into the world is wonderful.  Add to that another warrior for Christ and it is stunning.  How do I know Luciana Jean Baker will be a warrior?  I know her mother, her mother’s mother and a great grandmother.  Not to mention the men that will be in her life.  Luci will know the truth!

Training Prep:

So no training till tomorrow.  Back at it then.  Did get the MRI results.  Cartilage damage, osteoarthritus and an irritated tendon.  Won’t keep me from running just painful.  Like my Doctor.  His job is to keep me going and he takes that to heart.  Guess he knows I won’t stop so might as well help.  Will try some therapy on the tendon.  Dr said that if I was going to have a problem in my legs, the ankle was the best place vs the knee or hip.  Evedentlly, the knee and hip will get worse but the ankle will usually not deteriate much more or as fast.

In Haiti:

Most Haitians are Roman Catholic, while a growing number claim to be Protestant (estimates range from 20 to 30 percent).  But surveys have found the vast majority of Haitians – regardless of religious affiliation – hold at least some Voodoo beliefs.  Voodoo (also Voudou) can be loosely defined as a patchwork of spiritual beliefs, practices and superstitions brought to Haiti by African slaves more than two centuries ago.  Compared to most major world religions, it is loosely structured and often improvised by its practitioners.  Perhaps for that reason, it is also not well understood.  Voodoo most often takes the form of animism (the belief that everything in nature has souls or spirits) and syncretism (a blending of animism with other religious faiths such as Christianity).  Voodoo is similar to many religions practiced in Africa and other Caribbean nations.  As in any religion, Voodoo is practiced in varying degrees.  Some Haitians are thoroughly secular.  Others only nominally believe in superstitions and “wives’ tales” with Voodoo roots.  And still others practice it zealously – particularly Voodoo priests, priestesses, and witch doctors.  As with any religion, Voodoo is also subject to manipulation by its leaders, who sometimes use it to gain power, abuse others, and fatten their wallets.   Sometimes the pressure of those around us can direct our practices.  There are many Haitians who want to believe scripture yet they are pressured by their families and communities.  Reminds me of the early Church.  Sometimes we are closer to New Testament times than we think.

Trainin Prep:

Weights and a bike ride the same night.  Will try not to do that again.  Fatigue the muscles with weights and then try to use them is not easy.  However, the tri-athletes swim, ride and then run.  I have done the ride and then run and it is hard.  The results of the MRI will be in 2-3 days.

About Medical Help in Haiti:

In Northwest Haiti, medical emergencies are as commonplace as dusty roads.  There is almost no more urgent or tangible way Northwest Haiti Christian Mission shares Christ’s love than treating the sick.  Our medical ministry has grown from a small collection of medicines in the 1980s, to a far-reaching operation that today includes a general clinic, two operating rooms, a 24-hour birthing center, an ophthalmology clinic, a laboratory and a pharmacy.  In addition, NWHCM medical teams regularly travel to offer mobile clinics in communities across the region.  Our medical services have always been the most affordable in the area, and we offer care regardless of ability to pay.  Most of NWHCM’s facilities are staffed year-round by trained Haitian doctors and nurses.  Specialized surgeries are scheduled throughout the year with the help of visiting surgical teams.  Since its inception, our clinic has been a landmark in the region and has treated thousands of patients, some of whom walked for days from remote towns to get there.

Training Prep:

MRI in the morning.  Will let you know tomorrow what they have to say.  No work tonight.  Double up tomorrow.  Great thing about cross training, you can do weights on the same day as cardio work.   Wish me luck–
