Spiritual Prep:

Superbowl Sunday is today.  Have a friend who is at the game today.  But he is there for a reason other than the game.  Wayne is using his courage to follow his conviction.  He is handing out “Two Minute Warning” cards, asking people to consider the Lord.  The cards are really well done.  I know most will end up in the trash but—he is doing it along with others because they love people as God loves people.  They want what God wants, people to come to him through Jesus.   My favorite team today is Wayne’s team.  On the back of the card is a statement that all of our pictures are on God’s refrigerator.  Wayne, your card is on my refridgerator to remind me of your efforts for the Gospel.  Thanks for putting your beliefs into action.  U R an MVP!

Training Prep:

Doing weights this afternoon before eating a chicken wing or two or three or—–Stop!  Or I will have to eat less and pedal further tomorrow.  Not a good habit to get into, eating at random knowing you can exercise it away.  And bet you can’t eat just one-or two-or STOP!

Taxes!  That time of the year.  Yuk! On the other hand, we enjoy a lot of great things in this country because of taxes.  One that comes to mind as I consider Haiti, is the roads.  Trust me that no matter how bad the potholes become, you ain’t seen nothing till you have been in the back of a tap-tap (what they call private transportation for hire) in the northwest region of Haiti.  There are many-many other great things we have in the USA, that taxes provide (helps my spirit feel better to keep this comparison in mind).   I am also drawn the the charitable contribution portion of my return.  How about you?  Think runmarkrun.net!  Pass it on.  Thanks

Training Prep:

About to do an hour of running.  Snowing outside so inside it is.  CJ is on the treadmill for now so probably will start on the elliptical and transfer when she is finished.  As I watch her, I admire her for the determination to stay healthy.  We all owe it to the ones who depend on us (even those at work) to do what we can to stay healthy.  KNOW YOUR HEALTH STATUS.

Spiritual Prep:

Matt 23:12  “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who  humble themselves will be exalted”   How true this is.  Not always as immediate as we would like but in due time.  If there was only a low voltage zapper on my body to give me a mild correction when I violate these principles.  Wait, I have the prompting of the Spirit.  Perhaps if I listen to him, I will recognize more and more when I stray into a poor behavior.

Training Prep:

Rest day today.  Good to have those days.  Long workout tomorrow.

For Makendi and Ti-Frane Joseph, bedtime meant laying down to sleep on the cold hardness of a front porch in Port-de-Paix.  The children and their father were homeless, squatting on the steps of the mayor’s office at night to stay out of the rain. But the porch could not stop the mosquitoes from biting. And it could not help them when they got sick.  One day, the brothers’ dad died.  Makendi and Ti-Frane were sick, too, their eyes yellow.  They were alone  – until workers from NWHCM found them.  Now they live in a mission-run children’s home and their health is better than ever.  It’s estimated that more than 300,000 children in Haiti have lost one or both parents – about one in ten children.  Thousands of others suffer from life-threatening malnutrition that requires full-time care.  For those children, Northwest Haiti Christian Mission offers hope.  The mission operates a network of homes for orphaned and neglected children, providing a safe, nurturing environment for those who have no other place to turn.

Quick Facts

  • An estimated 189,000 children in Haiti have lost either their mother or both parents.
  • More than 200,000 children in Haiti have lost one or both parents to AIDS.
  • Nearly 20 percent of children under age 5 are severely malnourished.

Training Prep:

Weights tonight.  Have had some foot problems.  Two things going on at once.  A neuroma and “something else”.  Steroid shot help the nerve but the “something else” is a problem.  Doctors says arthritis or a floater.  Neither is good but lets hope for just arthritis.  MRI being scheduled.  Appreciate the prayers for– just old age Mark–get use to it, diagnosis.

Spiritual Prep:

Hebrews 12:11   “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it”.  We probably can all agree with that scripture unless of course we are being disciplined.  How do we know our condition is a result of our actions?  The Spirit whispers in our mind.   Some discipline lasts longer that we would like.  I am growing—

Training Prep:

Came into the office today and there was “the counter”.  It is a countdown clock.  93 days, 23 hours and 50 minutes till the start of the race when I walked by it this morning.  I will watch that count down and feel the day get closer and closer.  Ever notice how people work better if there is a deadline.  Ever notice how soon they give up if they get to far behind.  Ran 3.5 miles this afternoon.  Did some quarter mile splits to work on speed.  Want to keep a run in there even though I am trying to rest the ankle.   Treadmill day.  Ice everywhere outside and very cold.
