Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do we worship when we use our talents, skills and efforts?  Is worship confined to Church on Sundays?  I go with all the time and not limited by anything.  When we offer and it is in God’s word–we worship.  I pray that as we run we will remember it is an act of worship and in it all, grab moments to speak with the Lord.

Ran 3 miles this morning in the worst humidity I have every experienced.  Sweat started early and I was wet as though I had been in the rain.  Walked about another half mile afterward to cool down.  I am @ sea level.  I am going to do the treadmill while here from now on.   It is Thursday and tomorrow marks the day before race day.  It is close–

I am at a meeting on an island not that far from Haiti.  It is a different world.  We ask ourselves why things can be so different when the locations are not that far apart.  Here a paradise, a vacation spot and there poverty, sickness and distress.   Not that far apart.  We know people who have healthy and thriving spiritual lives and not that far away are those who are without spiritual direction, poor in knowledge and in distress with their lives.  You and I both know someone in distress spiritually.  Just like the situation with the earthqauake and the poverty in Haiti, the distress in the lives of the people you know offer an opportunity to direct them to the source of hope.  The country of Haiti will take years of development to become a better place.  Hearts, even ours take years of the Potter molding the clay for us to become people with better hearts.  Things are different in the materical world, not so different in our spiritual world.  I am reminded of the passage in Matt 7:4.  Good to watch the plank in your own eye before removing the speck in others.    Lord, give us humility of self and endurance for the service of others.  In you Name, Amen.

Training Prep

Rest day although, plenty of activity for a great calorie burn today.  Will hit the pavement tomorrow morning early for another run.  We are closing in on the final days.  Got to admit I am ready for it to end.  I am just an exerciser so every other day is acceptable to me.  This has been a journey to prepare .  I am pleased with what it has done for me physically but the committment has been more than I am used to.   I will have to decided when the race is over if I want to exercise at the same pace or eat at a lesser pace.  Either way, there is a price to pay for the result.  Isn’t that the way it always is?

CBS News featured NWHCM’s medical ministry this past Sunday.  It was posted on the face book page of this site.  Below is a synopsis of the film and a link so you can go and watch.  It is worth the time.   The copy follows.

Saint-Louis du Nord, Haiti — A story aired on CBS News Saturday highlighting the efforts of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission’s medical clinic to help meet the enormous health needs in the country’s Northwest Department.

The piece, which was shown on the CBS Evening News, outlines Haiti’s dire public health climate even before the January 12 earthquake that destroyed most of the health-care infrastructure in Port-au-Prince. CBS News medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook calls NWHCM’s clinic “one of the best in the region,” noting, however, that both public hospitals and NGOs must be better equipped to fully address the country’s medical problems.

In the piece, LaPook tells the story of NWHCM’s medical staff having to share an oxygen machine between a premature baby and an expectant mother experiencing labor complications, because only one machine was available.

“The reality is that even the best-equipped NGO hospitals in Haiti have to make very hard decisions every day because resources are so limited, compared with hospitals in the United States,” said Andy Olsen, NWHCM media director. “LaPook’s story underscores the huge need for greater financial support of medical ministries in Haiti, and the need for governments to invest in Haiti’s public health infrastructure.”

NWHCM has been providing free and low-cost medical care in Northwest Haiti for more than 20 years. It’s medical facilities are almost entirely staffed by trained Haitian doctors and nurses, and surgeries are offered at various times throughout the year by NWHCM’s many visiting surgery teams. Ran 3 miles today.  The heat where I am feels the same early morning and late afternoon.  Really humid and I seem to sweat all the water in my body out as fast as I can put it in.  Will take a rest tomorrow.  Have found some relief from the PF.  I have used a golf ball to roll around on my heels and my arch.  The heel is very touchy but seems to loosen it up and make it better.  I have also used the back shoe string holes on my shoes to pull the shoe back more on my foot not allowing it to slide forward.  Not sure which is doing the job and don’t care–I will do them both.  Only about 5 more runs till the Day!

Listened to a song by Casting Crowns today while running.  They were singing about the “Giant” calling to us and saying we can’t win.  Of course they were singing about David and Goliath.  1 Sam 17–Remember when David is fearless and claims the Lord is on his side and goes into battle.  The Giant tells him he can’t win.  How often do we listen to the giant and believe him in our lives.  How often do we face things of God and let the world tell us we can overcome.  Jesus tells us that he has overcome.  Our fearlessness in Jesus is challenged by the world calling to us that we can’t win.  We already have.  Little does the world know.  “though he slay me, yet will I love him” .  Couldn’t help but think of all the giants we see in the world and let them win in our heads and then in our hearts.  I desire to take a stand and say who is this that insults the Lord God and to be fearless like David.  You?

Ran 2.75 miles today in heat and humidity.  Just a loosen up run but felt really good.  Started rolling a golf ball under my foot and heal to try to break up whatever there is that is hurting.  Seemed to help.

It is so good to have friends in the Lord.  Friends are a gift but when you share friendship in the goodness of the Lord, that is something special.  We are travelingl today and cannot be at Church.  We have our running shirts (you can see them on Run Mark Run, face book page) and we are wearing them every chance to advertise the website and fundraiser.  Not being there today, Sallie Sparks is going to present on our behalf.  She is a dear friend to our family and a great supporter of this effort.  Love Ya Sallie and thanks for wearing the shirt at Church today.   Proverbs 27:6 <Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses>  We trust Sallie and many other of our brothers and sisters in Christ with our hearts.

Training Prep

No training today.  Starting to rest more.  Not to sore from the 6 yesterday.  Ran earlier in the day and kept moving.  Think that helped by not slowing down.  Still have some lactic acid build up.  Did you know that there is a heart rate level where you can exercise and your body will effeciently move the acid build up so there is little soreness.  Professionals can test for your threshold.  Unfortunatley, my threshold is so low, I can walk faster than running at that level.  But on the bike I can stay there all day with hardly any soreness.  I have become a real fan of the bike.  Let me recommend it as a way to exercise on a consistant basis.  You have to pay more attention as things will dart out into your path before you know it and that has a sudden stop involved.  I hope you R getting the exercise under control.  It doesn’t take much in the way of effort, it just takes a commitment to doing the TIME.  Results come faster than you can imagine.
