BACK FROM THE HONEYMOON!

So we got back from Ireland last night and it was amazing.  I did get to run in Ireland and that was really enjoyable.  The scenery and the constant beauty that God has provided that country with never ceased to amaze me.  It made me think a lot about how much the developed world has in terms of resources.  Fertile land, comfortable climate, clean water all of these things contribute to help supply a population with the things that they need.  Haiti barely has any of these things!

Haiti has so few resources that they need assistance and support to get the things that are basic requirements of supporting human life.  Haiti needs water, Haiti needs medical help, and Haiti needs food!

How can you make a little dent in these needs?  Check out www.runmarkrun.com and find out.  Such a little bit goes such a far way!

God Bless!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

It was announced today that Haiti will have a new President, Michel Martelly.  I pray that this is the beginning of the long road towards change and reform in Haiti but I know that this is only possible through prayer and trust in Him.   Haiti has long been plagued with corruption and abuses by its government leaders let pray that this time it will be different.

On the running side of things, training has been up and down throughout the last two weeks.  I did a little track workout last Friday and felt o.k. and then I did a hilly 6 miler yesterday and felt terrible.  I was about 10 seconds slower per mile for my last 2 miles and i felt like I was running through quicksand.

The race is now one month and one day away so please check out www.runmarkrun.com and see how this race is working to help the people of  Haiti. Many people don’t realize that although there is a goverment in Haiti that government rarely does anything in the northwest region.  These people of the northwest are often left to fend for themselves and rarely eat properly, see doctors, drink clean water, or are unabused.

PRAY HARD

Haiti……

A lot of things come to mind when thinking about this tiny country in the Carribbean.  Earthquake, cholera, poverty, starvation, unemployment, disease, destruction, corruption, and hopelessness come to some peoples minds.  But when Haiti comes to my mind i often think about the beautiful people, the smiles, the emphasis on community, and their unbelievable faith.  Could I have sustained as much as Haitians and still be entrenched in my faith?  I honestly do not have an answer but I do feel as though it would be shaken quite a bit.  The first time I was in Haiti I experienced their love in an unbelievably beautiful way.  I was walking with Justin O’Brien and two of our Haitian friends when we came upon a house in the countryside.  As we came up the road a couple called out to us and asked us to stop by and sit with them for a bit in the shade of some palms.  We quickly obliged and though we didn’t share the language we exchanged smiles and small talk when all of the sudden they offered us food!  The average family in the Northwest territory of Haiti struggles just to feed themselves each day but here was a couple who offered us food…..they offered all they had for us!  I knew at this moment that the people of Haiti were not only a resilient people but they were also a loving people.

This experience and the countless other loving experiences with the Haitian people have made me fall in love with Haiti.  It is this love that pushes me to constantly learn more about the country and to run.  Haitians give when they have little, I figure this allows me to give when I have a lot.  So please take the time to see how a few people are trying to give their all and see if you’d like to join us.

Good Morning Everyone!

So I am now a happily married man!  I had a most excellent weekend getting married to my beautiful wife Rachel.  We endured 5 inches of snow and 30 degrees, stood outside for the whole ceremony, but she was a very, very brave bride!  I am so blessed to be able to call her my wife and I thank God for her in my life.

On the running front, it was very hard getting out the past couple of days due to the wedding and my extreme need to sleep the past couple of days.  The wedding and all that it entailed took a lot out of me and I just decided to focus all of my energy on getting out today and the rest of this week on the roads and trails.

I was reading an article in the Economist this weekend about the ongoing problems in Haiti and it just about broke my heart.  Haiti has truly yet to recover from the earthquake last year that killed more then 200,000 people, left hundred of thousands homeless, and completely ravaged a country already suffering.  There are so many problems down in Haiti right now that the situation seems hopeless, but if we truly believe this then we are in as much trouble as Haiti.  For if we we give up hope in Haiti then we have given up faith in our Lord.  This just cannot be, because through Him all things are possible.  All things.  Be the hope that Haiti needs so badly right now, be the hope for the hopeless!  Please check out all of the available and proven resources to help Haiti including my personal favorites; www.runmarkrun.com and www.nwhcm.org

Countdown to Marriage….2 Days!!

Good morning everyone, I hope that everyone is staying dry and warm in this cold weather!  Running in this weather after the weekend we just had is difficult and i’m struggling with that and the fact that i’m running around like a chicken with its head cut off for the wedding.  I will be running six miles right after work today and I hope to do a little pick up in the 4th mile to see where I am at in terms of fitness.

I hope everyone in continuing to check out www.runmarkrun.com and also www.nwhcm.org to see what this training and race in May is all about.  I also ask everyone to pray for everything going on around the world lately.  I know it is hard imagine all of the things happening around the world but I pray that we trust in Him and place all of our fears, worries, and concerns in His mighty hands.
