Spiritual Prep:

Philippians 2:5  “Have the same mindset as Christ”.  Mindset is our heart.  It is where we truly reside.  It is the place where we birth all we do.  I know your have heard the saying “you are what you eat”.  Well, we are truly what we put into our minds.  Probably why the scripture tells us “what ever is pure noble and good, think on those things” .  What goes in is what comes out.

Training Prep:

Had to move this afternoon to in the morning.  Will be doing cardio and weights on the same day.  Very sore from being on the bike; a little saddle sore.  Doing squats in weight training added a little sore as well.  Soreness is a signal that I am working the right areas.  Have to keep working past the soreness because strength and condition is just beyond sore.

Spiritual Prep:

Romans 15:4  “so that through endurance and encouragement of the scripture, we might have hope”.  Endurance is something I really desire in most things.  As tiring as life can be, a good dose of endurance will get me through and offers me hope.  Wow, in the same verse it says encouragement of the scripture will give me hope as well.  Keep reading and pondering the scripture, it is good for the soul.

Training Prep:

I did the weights last night.  Great thing about accountability, it helps us keep our commitments.  Peddled the bike for an hour tonight.  Great pace.  I am a little sore from weights last night.  Not to bad, just enough to let me know I did them.  People are starting to train for the Mini in May.  Everyone is asking if we are doing the Run Mark Run again this year.  Got the first donation of the year!

Spiritual Prep:

Patience.  I know somewhere in scripture there are lessons in patience.  The first one that comes to mind is Adam and Eve.  Seems if they would have been patient to wait, they might have asked some questions of God about the claim put forth by the serpent rather than relying on their own understanding and logic.  Then jump to Cain who let his anger and ego burn into sin rather than being patient to learn and understand.  Instead he was ruled by how he felt.  Moving then to Abraham who sought to help fulfill God’s faithfulness and created an offspring that distracts us this very day.   Moses and so on– I am just not as patient a person as I hope to be.  Relying  on God’s timing rather than my own, takes being certain of what I hope for and do not see.  The heroes of scripture were claimed righteous by their faith, in the book of Hebrews in the Bible.  Losing patience with God’s timing is a mistake.  How many times have we/you told someone that learning from others mistakes is wisdom?  Sure hope I wise up soon!

Training Prep:

On an airplane early this morning and tonight (right now).   Going to start weights tonight. Saying that as a commitment so I won’t confess tomorrow I didn’t.  Will get home late but will do the routine I have laid out.  2 sets of 10 reps,  working each major muscle group.  Going to use dumbbells.  Will take time tonight to find the weight I am going to use for each exercise.  It needs to be a weight I can push up in 2 seconds and lower in 2 seconds and just barely do the 10 reps.   I will list the routine once I have it down.  Part of the commitment is to do the work no matter what.  Here is one of the first tests of resolve for me in weight training.

News from Haiti:

Roughly 50 percent of children in Haiti do not attend school.  For those who do, it is often pricy.  And for those who live in rural Haiti, the nearest school may be miles away on foot.  Northwest Haiti Christian Mission believes in empowering children in Jesus’ name, that they may grow into fulfilled adults spiritually, mentally and physically.  Essential to that end is making sure they have access to quality education.  NWHCM’s growing education network currently includes a dozen primary schools in towns across the Northwest, enrolling more than 2,000 students.  We heavily subsidize the education of every student and, for many of them, provide free school lunches.

Quick Facts

  • Roughly half of Haitians are illiterate, especially in rural areas like the Northwest.
  • 80 percent of Haitian children who attend school attend private schools.
  • Haiti’s per capita GDP is $480 (US) a year, and school fees are prohibitively expensive at an estimated $70 – $80 dollars a year per child.
NWHCM schools target the lowest-income students in a community, offering them classes and Christian teaching from pre-school to the sixth grade.  We provide an education that sharpens young minds and encourages young souls in discipleship and their faith.  Our school in Saint-Louis du Nord also offers classes for deaf and blind children.  Since all our classrooms are staffed by Haitian teachers, the schools provide valuable jobs to Haitians in a region where most people are unemployed.  We also combat malnutrition and hunger through our schools.  More than a thousand children receive daily meals in our school-lunch program – without which, many would eat almost nothing.

Training Prep:

Resting now after an hour on the bike.  Great work and not that hard on my foot, just my rear end.  Have my bike set up in the house on a trainer Frank and JJ gave me for Christmas last year.   Can set the Garmin watch so it show my heart rate, the revolutions per minute and time.  I work to keep the rpm’s around 80 which keeps my heart rate arount 130.  Will start weights tomorrow.  The schedule will be to do weights on Tue, Thurs and Sunday.  Friday will be the day off and Mon, Wed and Saturday will be cardio days.  anxious to see how it goes.

Spiritual Prep:

At Church today, the discussion was around faith.  What it is and the place it holds in our lives.  For me I find faith to be more on the positive side vs the negative side.  Guess you can have faith in something and not be to sure of an accurate outcome so in a lot cases I think faith can be more like hope.  You can have hope more like a wish (I hope things have a good ending) or your hope can be founded in faith (I know I can count on the ending).  Really believing I can count on the outcome causes me to behave much more deliberate in faith than “kinda”, “maybe” and “perhaps” sort of— way.   Not that I have attained an absolute faith, I know the more I act according to my faith and beliefs, the stronger it grows and the more I can see the Truth in my life.

Training Prep:

Off day but spent the afternoon charting out a weight routine.  My ankle is still very stiff and Iam waiting to be approved for an MRI.  X-ray didn’t reveal anything but MD thinks I have a floater.  I think I am just getting old and paying for my younger days when tape cured everything.  Maybe I just have to run through the discomfort.  Weights will help my over all strength.  The older we get the more important it is to do some resistance work to maintain our health and balance.  Strong core helps everything.
